UPCOMING EVENTS
February PTO Meeting

Wednesday, Feb 4 @ 6:30pm (In-person at Bowman)

Please join us Wednesday as Jenny Corduck, Noah Hill and Joan Strodel (Speech Language Pathologist) share with us about the “Second Step” and Kimochi social-emotional learning programs at Bowman. They will cover the general character traits they teach and give us the chance to experience a model lesson.

After the presentation, stay for a brief PTO update on the ways we have been supporting our students and school community. Don’t miss this chance to see how we’re helping students thrive both in and out of the classroom. We hope to see you there!

Note: This is the second to last PTO meeting of the year. The final PTO meeting will be on May 13. More to come on the presentation from our school for the May meeting!

About PTO Meetings

Bowman PTO meetings are a time for the parent/guardian community to hear from the school, meet the community, and get involved. Each meeting includes a presentation from the school, dedicated time for Q&A with school administrators and staff, followed by PTO news and updates.

Have an idea for a topic you’d like to hear about? Presentations will rotate throughout the year, focusing on school programs, processes, and topics of interest to families. Share your ideas!

Our Staff Appreciation team is gearing up for our Valentine’s Staff Appreciation event! This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating our amazing teachers and staff in two special ways:

1. Roses for Teachers & Staff

Families are invited to purchase roses for the teachers and staff members you’d like to recognize. Submit all orders by Wednesday, February 11, 11:59pm. Roses will be delivered on Thursday, February 12.

 You can order:

  • A single rose

  • A half dozen roses
  • Contribute toward additional roses for our valued Bowman support staff.

When ordering roses, please specify the name(s) for EACH teacher/staff member you are recognizing and select the desired rose order for each recipient.

2. Sweet Treats for the Staff Room

Help show appreciation to our wonderful Bowman teachers & staff with special Valentine's Day treats on Thursday, February 12. Please sign up to donate a treat and drop off items in the Teachers' lounge at Bowman on Thursday, February 12, 8:30am-9am. You can also hand it to a PTO volunteer at rolling car line.

Can't contribute in person? Make a monetary donation to Staff Appreciation and we will purchase items on your behalf. Email staffappreciation@bowmanpto.org, if you have questions or need to make drop-off arrangements.

Let’s show our teachers & staff how much they are appreciated with both flowers & treats!

Get Involved with the PTO!

We’re more than halfway through the school year and already thinking about next year! We have many experienced parent volunteers graduating from Bowman this year and are looking to fill the space they will leave behind.

Whether you’re interested in helping to plan an event or serve on the executive board, we’d love to hear from you. Sign up to volunteer in a specific area or email president@bowmanpto.org with any questions.

CORI Check Reminder

Please remember that it is district policy that anyone who volunteers (lunch, Big Backyard, library, Room Helpers, PTO events, etc) in our school must have a CORI check completed by Lexington Public Schools. CORI checks are good for 3 years.

For any questions regarding the CORI check, please email Mrs. Ashness (cashness@lexingtonma.org) or Mrs. Barnes (bbarnes@lexingtonma.org) in our Main Office. Do your CORI check now so you do not miss the fun - this can take up to 30 days!

Bowman Math Team Update

In December, the 5th graders took their second Continental Math League test. Their combined score after two tests is 60/72, placing them in the top 19% in the country and maintaining the #1 rank in New England. Congratulations to Advait I., Arthur B., Varsha Y., and Zoey F. who each scored a perfect 6/6 on their tests.

The 4th graders also took their second test in December. The combined score after two tests is 62/72, placing them in the top 16% in the country and also still #1 rank in New England. The test questions are notably more challenging this year. Congratulations to Dahoe K., Deniz M. and Ian J. who each scored 5/6 on the test.

The 3rd graders took their first test in January (picture below) - stay tuned for next month's update to see how they did!

The week before the winter holidays we had a math celebration party with games and prizes. The kids are all having a great time this year, and everyone should be proud of their accomplishments both in regular class and in the competitions.

JANUARY RECAP

Another Bowman Movie Night is in the books! Three cheers for our 5th Grade Activities team, Lakshmi Ramanath, Shweta Jain, Meghan Wilson, and Jackie Anderson for a night of movie magic! Our wonderful fifth graders stepped up to the plate, made posters to advertise the event and volunteered the night of, taking on tasks from tickets and food sales to popcorn making! Thank you also to all the additional parent and guardian volunteers who helped to make this night so special! All funds raised from movie night will support 5th grade activities in celebration of their final year here at Bowman.

Thank you, again, to Areej Pirzada for another successful Bowman Eats Out! We raised just under $300 from Boston Kebab, who generously “rounded it up” to $350!

LPS Technology Advisory Committee

Support for Development of a LPS Technology Advisory Committee: With technology changing faster than schools can adapt, it’s more important than ever for parents to have a voice in the decisions shaping how tech is used in our classrooms. A Technology Advisory Committee would bring parents, students, educators, and administrators together to review evidence, anticipate challenges, and guide thoughtful, balanced choices. Please consider signing this open letter urging the LPS district to create this committee so families can be true partners in shaping a healthy, effective tech environment for our kids.
